Our History

The Remington is an 11-story apartment building that first opened its doors in December 1973 when housing for low-income seniors was starting to become a priority in Fort Collins. The Fort Collins Downtown Merchants Association, who spearheaded the housing project, bought the old Remington School site initially to create a parking lot for downtown merchants, employees, and customer parking in 1969. Downtown Merchants Association members, Jack and Elsie Russell, had the vision of building housing for low to moderate income seniors on the lot. After a year and half of planning, Jack had enlisted a number of supporters for the project and the application was sent to the U.S. Department of H.U.D. The Downtown Merchants Association agreed to sell the parking lot to DMA Plaza Inc. The DMA Plaza opened its doors to seniors in December 1973.

Our Vision

At The Remington, we believe that every senior deserves to live in luxury and comfort, regardless of their income or financial status. That’s why we have renovated our building to reflect the modern luxury that today’s residents have come to expect from their homes. Paying tribute to the old Remington School and the street on which the building is located, in 2021 a new name and a new look was created. The Remington was renovated. The exterior got a new updated look while interior work upgrades included new heating, ventilation, lighting, plumbing, electrical and fire suppression upgrades. Additionally, the community room and laundry room were expanded, and an exercise room and conference room was were added. The exterior got a new updated look.
